Meeting Yourself Where You Are

Let's face it: you can be your own worst critic. Sometimes, you hold yourself to an impossible standard, then count it as a failure when you don't quite make it. It's hard to feel accomplished when you don't allow yourself to succeed. This negative, repetitive cycle doesn't do your mental health any favors either.

When you feel yourself getting stuck in a low energy trend, try remembering that NO ONE ELSE IS YOU. No one else feels what you feel, knows what you know or sees what you see. Your experiences, memories and perspectives are unique to you. Comparing yourself to someone else really is like asking an apple why it isn't an orange!

Here's another way to approach it: Would you expect your best friend to run a marathon with you tomorrow, knowing she had never run before? You wouldn't, right? Because that's an unreasonable request. Expecting perfection from yourself is also an unreasonable request and can be damaging after awhile.

So, how can you be kind to yourself and still feel good at the end of the day? Meet yourself where you are! Don't set yourself up for failure by being unrealistic about where you are in this moment. Think about how far you've already come and honor your progress. Give yourself credit for the things you've worked hard for. You don't have to suffer indefinitely for mistakes that you've made. Allow self-acceptance and grow.
